FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Q. "I'm sold! I want to join the revolution! Just one thing... What in blazes is fistball?!"
A. That's a peach of a question. Follow the 'links and media' tab for more information!
Q. How much is this going to cost me?
A. Owing to the generous contributions of our friends, family and corporate connections in the US and around the world, your expenses will not exceed that which you spend on transportation: this might include drives to training and flights to international competitions. Once we have arrived at our destination, we can count on lodging, meals and local transportation between venues!
Q. Should I be scared?
A. Not at all! Most of you have already automated the technical skills necessary to succeed; we need only make some minor adjustments and get your repetitions up. If you sign-on today, and if you can make the commitment to train frequently (with your teammates or--when necessary--individually), you will be sufficiently prepared to share the field with the world's best. Points may not come easily for us, but neither will they be given frivolously. We will be competitive.
Q. But, like, isn't all of this going to hurt? It looks like it might hurt.
A. Bollocks! Injuries are an unfortunate aspect of all sports, but playing fistball is comparable to any other physical activity: if you perform technique properly and with confidence in your ability, the toll on your body will be minimal and the likelihood of injury will be reduced to fractional proportions. Consider other sports: you might injure your arm pitching a ball incorrectly, or you might roll your ankle landing incorrectly from a jump shot, or you might strain your back swinging the club incorrectly. In the same vein, we will make it our priority to ingrain good form and technique so that players make movements and actions that minimize the opportunity of injury to the smallest probability.
Q. What about my volleyball career? I'm pretty good, I'll have you know...
A. Great! I encourage the pursuit of non-fistball-related activities--you will emerge a better competitor in both sports! Technical differences aside, the emotional and intellectual strain of competition is consistent in all sports and judged events. The best athletes require challenge and experience in a wide variety of arenas; if you want to add to the cache of skills you have honed in high school, university, league and club, then I urge you to seize this opportunity. Use your experiences with sand/grass/indoor volleyball to sharpen your performance on the fistball field (and vice-versa!). This experience will leave you a stronger volleyball player and a more complete athlete. You can find a balance, and I will be the first to help you.
